Last year I completed my first year of Teaching, but I discovered pretty soon that it wasn't for me. I completed the year with good grades on my assignments and exams which made it easier for me to transfer across to the Bachelor of arts Psychology this year. I got my acceptance letter on the 28th January 2010. Uni starts back up in about two weeks and I am just so excited.
My course consists of 16 psychology Units, 6 minor units and 2 elective units of study. I am thinking about doing youth work or children and family studies as my minor units because I have a background in it and I may find it slightly easier than anything else. As for my two electives I am thinking about creative writing and literature and writing as writing in general is one of my interests.
I am looking at around 6-7 years of study ahead of me, in order for me to be a Clinical Psychologist. So I have three years to get my bachelor, then I do my honours and then go onto my post grad/masters. It seems like such a long time but it will well and truly be worth it. Since I was about 10 years old people have been telling me I should do something along the lines of Psychology or councilling. I wish I had listened a couple of years ago now... But my only advantage now is that I have University experience, I know where everything is and how it all works. Even though I will still have to go through all the first year games and get to know you routines, I know what to expect and am not even a little bit nervous. I also hope I will get along with people in Psychology because I didn't in Teaching (but between you and me teachers are a strange breed).
My wisdom of the day: Enter each new situation with your head held high and have no negative expectations, as nothing ever turns out the way you expect. Don't doubt yourself and take every moment as it comes. Be true to yourself and give yourself a chance, because you never know what you may be able to achieve if you can get past your fears and insecurities.
